Requesting Boards
Self-service board creation is disabled. Anon.cafe doesn't grant boards to anyone who asks, but perhaps we'd like to host your board. Broadly, we'll consider boards that aren't duplicated elsewhere on the webring but we weigh up a variety of factors. Being comfy is a plus! But, in the end it comes down to our private decision.
Please review the Global Rules before you request a board. Please also be certain that you are willing to carry out the duties of a board owner. Boards whose owners do not log in for more than two weeks will be marked inactive and put up for claim. Boards that remain dead for an extended period and/or demonstrate a failure to thrive may be deleted.
If you'd like to run a board on anon.cafe, please create an account and then post in this thread with:
>The username you created
>Board URL (e.g. /meta/)
>Board name
>Board topic
>Would you like the board marked SFW (i.e. no explicit or other adult-only content, even behind spoilers)?
>Is your board brand new, or a re-creation of a board from the past?
>Do you have posters already eager to post on your new board, or are you hoping to attract them after it is created? If the latter, where do you expect to draw them from?
>Does your board substantially duplicate or overlap with any other board on the webring? If so, what is so different about your board that you want to make another one?
Please specify if you are requesting a board for use as a "bunker", which is a board that will remain inactive and only be used in case your main board hosted elsewhere becomes unavailable. We request that bunker boards remain delisted from the board list and top boards so that we do not pollute the webring with many inactive duplicates of boards. To delist your board, go to Board Management > Settings, check the "Don't index on top boards and board list" box, and click Save. Delisted boards can still be read and posted on, so you can still distribute your new bunker's address to your anons. If your main board becomes inaccessible or you want to turn your bunker into your main board, feel free to relist it by unchecking the aforementioned "Don't index on top boards and board list" box and clicking Save.
Please note that because delisted boards can still be posted on, their owners are still expected to log in regularly and clear them of spam or rule-breaking content and that delisted boards whose owners do not log in for some time will still go up for claim as normal. If you keep your bunker clear of spam and rule-breaking content, it will remain unlocked so that posts can be made at any time. If spam or rule-breaking content accumulates, the board will be administratively locked and will only be unlocked by request. By the time we see an unlock request and act on it, your anons may already have been unable to use the bunker for some time. A tidy bunker is a ready bunker.

Community Announcements
Sometimes boards do things and think that it would be nice for other boards to know about it. Every week - assuming there are events - we'll post upcoming events in the global announcement slot as smaller community announcements.
If you'd like your event to be added to the rotation, post here with your:
>Board
>Event name
>Event thread
>Event date and time (please provide time in UTC at minimum plus whatever other timezones you'd like included)
Board owners may suppress community announcements without also hiding all global announcements if they desire by using custom CSS to hide class "community-announcements-board-owners-feel-free-to-hide-this".
I've taken the liberty of making /otter/'s Ottercine otter movie night the first event we announce. Good job, /otter/.

InstantIB.LynxChan + Onion: An Imageboard Host Builder
UPDATE: instantib.lynxchan version 2.4.10 released.
I'm releasing a modified version of Anon.cafe's build and maintenance tooling. It is an Ansible role that turns a CentOS 7 server into a LynxChan 2.4.10 host with an nginx reverse proxy in front to handle HTTPS termination and traffic limiting. It is very configurable and includes variable documentation as well as a tutorial to help those unfamiliar with Ansible get up to speed. It's my hope that this will help Anon spin up new imageboards without having to struggle against many of their software's peculiarities and tedium. I've also added a role that will set up Tor hidden services; it permits either hands-off management of the hidden service private key or storage of the hidden service private key in an encrypted Ansible Vault.
InstantIB.LynxChan is at
https://gitgud.io/Skyline/instantib.lynxchan
InstantIB.Onion is at
https://gitgud.io/Skyline/instantib.onion
The role bundles and builds several pieces of software not available in CentOS repositories (e.g. ExifTool to strip EXIF from images and FFmpeg to generate better thumbnails), may optionally create a special user that can pull remote MongoDB database dumps from elsewhere, ensures that both MongoDB and LynxChan will restart on failure, detects and handles necessary service restarts/reloads, may install and configure the webring/alternate captcha/native image generation addons if desired, supports proper multi-device favicons, provides enhanced TLS security by default, optionally generates strong custom Diffie-Hellman (DH) key-exchange parameters for extra security, allows optional IP range blocking at the network firewall, configures Security-Enhanced Linux to work gracefully with MongoDB, and allows optional use of the notoriously obtuse Sendmail to relay email from LynxChan to an external mail host.
If you have some basic GNU/Linux literacy and follow the tutorial then read the documentation carefully, you will be able to use this to spin up and maintain a LynxChan imageboard of your own. You can override and adjust the variables and then re-run your playbook to gracefully detect and adjust only what needs to be adjusted on your server.
The role is presently in alpha; although I use it with full confidence on anon.cafe, it is possible that it might not work for some combination of options I've never tried, or I've broken it while adding the latest enhancements for genpop use. I recommend that you try it out thoroughly against a virtual machine before using it on any kind of production instance. Be careful and methodical.
Future tutorials will include the Paranoid Admin's Imageboard Hosting Primer, in which I will briefly explain the different privacy and security trade-offs you can make as an imageboard admin for yourself and your users, making payments and taking donations without compromising your identity, understanding how to maintain OPSEC+COMSEC+FINSEC in such a way that a single breach will not be your undoing, how all this might be done in practice, and more.
To those who do not have the literacy this tooling assumes and would prefer something a little more intensively hand-holding, more will come. I nevertheless encourage you to muddle your way through with a VM, a CentOS 7 netinst ISO, and a search engine - if nothing else, you will come out knowing a little more than you came in with.

The New Imageboard Charter - A Webring Microcosm
For too long the webring has been influenced by the whims of /tech/ wizards and xenophobia rather than by those who wish to have fun with like-minded individuals. The purpose of imageboards has always been a gathering point for discussion and creation of OC, and yet increasingly we see the webring eroding away as boards find themselves unable to retain users as bad actors continue to abuse the naturally reclusive nature of anon to force those who hold out into tighter-knit communities that continuously eat away at their own userbase in the hopes of maintaining the illusion of an organized state of affairs that simply no longer exists, and shutting up any dissent to this status quo. 8chan is dead. 4chan is controlled by the enemy. The anonymous alternatives outside of the webring are generally cancer, and the deep web and peer-to-peer websites will always be too niche. The old gods of lulz have lead to a warlord-like state that is not conducive to generating discussion, while the bastions of culture and historical precedence we have held up as the new gods of the webring have failed to provide us with a means of retention as they cannibalize their own and grow increasingly corrupt. We talk of fallbacks and archives, and yet in the midst of a new season of anime boards like /animu/ and /a/ are at all-time lows during the cusp of a new season, with core members of the old 8chan stronghold being chased away from even engaging in the webring over technicalities and us-vs-them mentalities. Some even go so far as to violate the essence of the webring at the mere mention of outsiders appearing, while others actively stab their counterparts in the back to hold onto these few users that still hold out for a brighter future.
What do we have to show for our preservation of the old guard? Absolutely nothing. A dying userbase across a scattering of websites where even those who considered themselves defenders of this status quo are unable to come to grips with the reality that they are a dying breed, or who try to stand stoicly in the face of death when they could so easily roll out of the way of the death blow because they lack the courage to face the future head-on. When others notice these things and address the elephant in the room, they are smacked down by their peers like crabs in a bucket, or the /tech/ wizards who lord over their serfs look upon them with disdain and cackle about how they can always start their own imageboard whilst smacking down any attempts by the serfs to rise above their masters with ridicule and scorn, as was seen first-hand by many after the fall of Julay last year when several attempts at a better tomorrow were snuffed out, entirely ignored after pledging technical support, or mocked by the "elite" in charge of the most popular webring websites.
I'm not here to spread fear, uncertainty, and doubt, but I won't play around with formalities and putting on appearances to suck up to the current "heads of state" as they be either. If I thought this was a problem that could be fixed by money I'd be more than willing to throw four figures worth (USD) at the problem, but the only solutions money can buy require time and investments, as well as a willingness on the part of either the acting front-runners of the webring (something they would never agree to given the radically different approach I propose) or third parties that would naturally not be trusted. The fact of the matter is, when an organization of any kind is faced with a looming, imminent death, they have three choices:
1) Surrender.
2) Die like dogs.
3) Adapt.

Deleting Boards
This thread is for boards that are going to be deleted. All boards up for deletion will be given a minimum of seven days notification before it happens to allow them to be evacuated. It's not fun to cull boards, but it is necessary for the health of Anon.cafe and the health of the webring.
There are no set criteria for deletion, but factors that make a board more likely to be deleted include long inactivity (if that board is not a bunker) with no signs of revival, a long-absent owner (if that board is not a bunker), very low post count/indications of stillbirth, and other factors that indicate the board has likely calcified and is unlikely to revive. Well-maintained, unindexed bunkers will not be deleted unless their community appears to have disappeared entirely.
As of now - Saturday May 02, 2020 at 0935 - the following boards have been selected for deletion:
>>>/girltalk/
>>>/lovelive/
>>>/mh/
>>>/psyid/
>>>/int/
>>>/nofap/
Boards at risk of being considered stillborn include:
>>>/hentaiclub/
Boards that have had no activity but are presently exempt from being considered stillborn because of Julay.world's circumstances include:
>>>/icup/
>>>/loomis/

Please remove 8chan.moe from your webring following list. Blacklist optional.
As it stands, anon.cafe is the
only site in the webring that is following 8chan.moe. Other sites have blacklisted the site in history for numerous reasons. This site is currently the only site in the
entire webring that is following 8chan.moe. I'm here to convince you why you should stop doing that.
8chan.moe has been extremely unpopular amongst anons across the entire webring for numerous reasons. It's getting to a point that it is impossible to ignore the complaints.
Please hear me out entirely.
First is the fact that after many months and several lies, they have absolutely no interest in conforming to webring standards. They are one of the only sites in the webring that has failed to conform to fair practice in the webring by failing to fully implement the webring plugin. Very few sites have failed to do this, and the other sites are for the most part rather small. 8chan.moe however, is the largest site in the webring currently with the most activity, and they have failed to implement the webring after several months of being asked to. They have no interest in joining the webring properly. If you don't believe me and need proof, please read this thread:
https://8chan.moe/site/res/1880.html
Several months ago you blacklisted 8chan.moe from your site because they failed to properly implement the webring. They still haven't committed to fully and properly implementing the webring. When people complain, they ignore it. They have never been interested in properly implementing the webring. All they care about is that people from the webring get advertised to visit 8chan.moe and they have never had the good faith to enable the webring GUI on their site. It has been several months and they have not fixed it. They won't even respond to it anymore.
The second biggest complaint is that they harbor Mark. Mark is known for bringing the press and other undesirables to anything he inhabits. The fear is that this could eventually infect the rest of the webring. However, without proper integration to the rest of the webring, this is honestly unlikely, but it is still a complaint that is raised.
The third and most recent complaint is that 8chan.moe has begun to allow content that is not legal in the United States and is very likely not legal elsewhere. The United States is usually considered the pinnacle of free speech and even their limitations, such as the DOST test, are echoed around the rest of the world. This is what caused 8chan to be delisted on the only other site they were listed in the webring. Pic related.
The fourth and final reason is just plainly that you cannot trust the word of Acid. He has made so many numerous promises to correctly implement the webring and even at the beginning he started the webring with some "peering agreement" thing which backfired at him. He decided to reverse that decision as soon as he became bombarded with webring users who complained at him. However, due to a lack of complaints about his extremely bad-faith nature and his flat-out lies about his intentions, his site has been allowed to be included in a substantial part of the webring for months now. It's time to remove his site from the webring and stop trusting him.
My hope is that you will remove him from your following list which will remove him from the webring. I hope nobody in the future is ever suckered into adding back 8chan.moe.
Thank you for reading this post.

(CANCELLED) Internet Radio on the Anon.cafe Broadcasting System
Update: The ACBS has been shut down and is no longer available.
We've overhauled Anon.cafe's Icecast server, named it the Anon.cafe Broadcasting System (ACBS), and are thinking about opening it up for use by boards. You can use audio streaming software (e.g. Mixxx) together with the ACBS to create Internet radio shows that others can tune into, well-known examples elsewhere on the webring being Smug/a/'s r/a/dio, PLW/animu/'s jazz streams, and so on.
The ACBS's secure endpoint is at
https://radio.anon.cafe and will show any playing streams together with links to begin listening to them. This page will only show streams that are active at that moment.
If you consider yourself an anon of one of Anon.cafe's boards and would like to stream over the ACBS, you will need a streamer account. We're still working out the details of how we'll manage this, but at the moment we'd like streamers to have the blessing of the Board Owner whose board the stream is associated with to deter abuse. A Board Owner can bless multiple streamer accounts if they please.
To get a streamer account, please figure out what kind of content you'd like to stream, discuss it on whatever board you'll be streaming it under, secure the blessing of the Board Owner, then post in this thread with answers to these questions:
1. Which board(s) will you be streaming under?
2. What sort of thing do you want to stream?
3. How often do you think you'll stream, and for how long? (This won't serve as a commitment or restriction, it's so that we can understand resource timing.)
4. What would you like your stream's mount URL to be? (For example, a stream mount URL of "pancakestream" will show up in the ACBS as /pancakestream and have a playlist URL of
https://radio.anon.cafe/pancakestream.m3u )
5. What streamer username would you like?
6. What email address may we send your credentials to, if and when approved?
We'll confirm with the board owner(s) before issuing you a streamer account. Once you have a streamer account, you may use it at will.
Naturally, all of Anon.cafe's Global Rules (see
https://anon.cafe/.static/pages/globalRules.html for details) apply to content streamed on the ACBS. Please keep in mind that the ACBS's server is used for other things as well; we'll try to avoid stepping on a stream's toes, but there might be rare times when it can't be helped. Some things at our provider's level are also out of our control, though we've not seen incidents of that kind for a while.
Of course, you should feel free to have your streams promoted in our global community announcements, which you can read about in
>>13261
We hope Anon.cafe and the wider webring will enjoy the ACBS!

Considering Fatchan's jschan
LynxChan had its advantages, but during the short time that Fatchan was up I saw some things I really liked. It also seems to have garnered good reviews from those anons who posted on it.
The questions I'm now asking are:
>Is jschan suitable for use yet?
jschan's repository README contains a warning that it isn't production-ready. Development is likely to be wilder, upgrades rockier, and behavioral edges less well-understood. I recall that Fatchan also had its share of attacks and the countermeasures seemed to strike a nice balance between being effective and preserving anon quality of life.
>How expensive is jschan to run?
By "expensive" I mean how CPU intensive, how memory-intensive, and how disk-intensive is it compared to LynxChan? Only someone with experience running both would be able to comment, but we can hope such a person exists.
>What options exist to migrate content from LynxChan to jschan?
A supported migration path is essential; direct database-to-database transfer would be ideal. Has anyone else migrated content from a LynxChan instance to a jschan instance and if so, how did it go?
>Will jschan continue to be developed and for how long?
Tom has said that he plans to keep actively developing jschan but given his recent force-feeding of blackpills I'd like to know his thoughts on how long he'll be committing to the software as its maintainer. Open-source projects can in theory be taken over if the original maintainer abandons them but this transition only sometimes goes well. I also see no pull requests having been made on jschan so I don't know how Tom runs his ship compared to, say, Stephen Lynx.
>What do our board owners think of switching to jschan?
Our board owners love their custom CSS; switching over to jschan is likely to mean they need to adjust their CSS yet again in a more radical way than a normal LynxChan upgrade.
Apart from the technical and maintenance aspects, do our BOs rely on any features that jschan doesn't have? Does jschan have features they'd like?
>What do our posters think of switching to jschan?
A few of our posters cross-posted on Fatchan while it was alive. What did they think of it compared to posting on LynxChan instances like here and Julay.world?
>Should we keep our frontend and if so, how difficult would porting it be?
I've heard no opinions either way on our XanderLynx-based frontend so I don't know if people like it or not. People seemed to like Fatchan's frontend but it's hard to tell exactly why because they usually gave feedback on the posting experience as a whole.
What do we think?

https://boards.3chan.co/b/thread/16482
The guys over at 3chan seems to be interested in joining the webring, but the plugin is not compatible with their version. Is there an alternate one that could connect them to it?

Is it possible to use super secure tripcodes here? I.e tripcodes made with three pound symbols? (###)

The Absolute State
This is the weakest justification I have ever seen
>You're not all like this. Such posts are usually met with scorn or well-reasoned counterarguments by other posters
So why not have the bad-eggs kicked out (easily done, as most will get upset if rules are changed) and not delete 30% of the posts ever made on your site?
>but occasional glimpses of /fascist/ from time to time suggest that such content has become more typical as time has passed
"occasional glimpses", i.e. the occasional outrageous post that gains controversy, while 95% of the content is mundane and fine. discussion
>and that the board has changed from its original tone and focus since we allowed a bunker to be set up here.
This is a lie. The board is the same.
> we are not willing to engage in intensive monitoring and moderation of the board's content
Tell the BO to clean up the problem posters. You have already said that most of the board is not like this and and the problem posters are "usually met with scorn or well-reasoned counterarguments by other posters"
Also, it's clear that the BO is willing to negotiate on these matters, and frankly it is quite unprofessional to warn someone that their board is in danger, and not notify the BO on the board itself in some way so you are sure that they know their board is danger.

Clarification
Since I've apparently become the BO of /k/, I was wondering if I could have clarification on Romanian laws regarding calls to violence since I imagine that will be the most likely violation to take place in regards to the global rules and would like to make sure to be transparent with the site admin and enforce policy to the best of my ability. I am obviously not well-versed on Romanian law, and while I'd prefer to live and let live where possible, I also do not want to put the site admin in hot water or be in violation of the global rules. The rules mentioned threats of individual violence and I assume that to a lesser extent implicit terroristic threats would also fall under global rules, but I'd like to establish a line to draw so that I'm not stepping on toes when it comes to the boundary between what can reasonably be considered a suggestion in poor taste versus an illegal (in Romania) call to violence. I'll provide an example that just got posted below for clarification/so that it's not in the OP if it happens to be in violation of the global rules.

Can you restore /k/ to approximately the closest restore point to an hour and a half ago (9PM UTC)? A spammer came through and wiped out the board.

Oncoming Death of /r9k/
It seems like it's the end for us bots. If any of you (robots) are reading this I'm sorry it has to end this way for us. It seems like this place, this name, which we called home will soon become naught but a memory.
It might be a bit pathetic to be sad about an imageboard but I am. All these years of conversing with friends, with brothers will all be lost in time, like tears in rain. I considered all you bots friends and to me /r9k/ was truly like a band of comrades all with shared purpose and shared experiences. Unless something happens to completely alter our course then I'm afraid that the momentum is against us and so this may be goodbye.
May seem overly dramatic to make this post at this point but I'd rather make it now while there's still some cohesion rather than when we're truly dead
Feel free to delete this if you feel it doesn't fit in /meta/ (remade due to fucked formatting)

Thread 3- Final Thread; Potato Edition
I'll go ahead and make a third thread since I want the threads to be archival and viewable in their entirety, but I think all webring discussion has stopped at this point so this will be the "last one" unless there's actually a reply limit.
New thread for anons with potato computers! Mk2
Good evening, everyone!
How's it going? Is everyone having a comfy Saturday so far? We'll be having a radio stream so feel free to drop on by and get comfy. We'll be starting with some meme magic, officially kick off the stream with Protomen Act 1, work our way into some dadrock and r/a/dio classics, throw in some Eurobeat (no taimroll since anons outside of /a/ & /animu/ won't get it and will get their buttmankos in a knot), go into depression block for a bit before ending the night on a lighter note. Feel free to drop on in throughout the day, ask for help, or just talk shit with fellow webring members. We'll be going (officially) for 10 hours, but knowing how these things go it will probably be closer to 12/13.
For those unfamiliar with radio streams, you can request songs, but not in bulk and not block requests. The streamer reserves the right to deny a /r/equest. Just include an "/r/" with your /r/equest. I forget if anon.cafe allows mp3 uploads, so if not, pop it into mixtape.moe and send a link my way (or be forever butthurt when I get a jewtube rip in 128kbps because that's all my internet can handle while streaming).
Stream can be found here:
http://radio.anon.cafe:8000/stream.m3u
In the event of total catastrophic meltdown of the servers, let's plan on making a thread on julay's /meta/ thread without asking, and I'll make a shitty 128kbps stream on caster.fm/post the details in the new OP (note that caster.fm does not hide your IP from the streamer, so never bareback an imageboard. I don't see your IP from icecast though). Make sure to thank anon.cafe's owner, he's really putting his neck out for us tonight and I'm very thankful for that.
In any case, let's have a fun evening. Grab your dakimakura if you're a fellow weeb, brew some coffee or green tea, grab some booze, and settle in for some fun times if this is your first "R/a/dio" experience.
I've been given temporary global vol status to remove CP or similar spam during the stream. I would rather not use it so I'd ask any bad actors to just enjoy the stream and let it rest for the evening. Radio is supposed to be a comfy place and I think you'll find comfort listening in as well.
/r/s are currently on a "soft" stop due to volume and have been for about an hour now.
The purpose of this stream is twofold:
A) To chillax and get comfy after a long week.
B) To act as technical chat/meetup for those looking for help in regards to setting up their own imageboard.

Deportment Radio Stream
There will be a music stream being held at a currently undisclosed location Saturday from about 12PM to 10PM GMT-7 on a webring member's board. The topic during the stream will be on Julay's recent announcement and how to move forward, advice for people starting their own branch on the webring, etc. I will disclose the board it will be held on tomorrow around 6-7PM GMT-7 so as to prevent any preemptive attacks against said webring member.

Problems in Chile
So I have a friend who lives in Chile, and when he tried visiting here a couple of days ago, it said that it didn't exist, gave the typical "can't find this site" jargon and all that. Thing is, when I checked (I'm from the US), I could load it just fine.
So the question is, do you guys use CloudFlare or some load-balancing/anti-DDOS service, do you run on a single IP, and do you know if you've been censored in any countries?
Thanks
