Good Deeds Anonymous 05/07/2021 (Fri) 13:35:38 ID: 8987e1 No.212
Good Deeds (Hasanat) These are the words of Almighty God: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَهُمْ جَنَّاتٌ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ الْفَوْزُ الْكَبِيرُ Lo! those who believe and do good works, theirs will be Gardens underneath which rivers flow. That is the Great Success. (Surah al Buruj 11) On Judgment Day we are all faced with the scale of deeds, wherein our bad deeds will be weighed against the good. Those whose bad deeds outweigh the good face the punishment of Allah. What are good deeds? There are a large variety of good deeds a Muslim can perform for the sake of Allah. Here are only a few examples: >Salah It is the first obligation of the Muslim after the Shahada and such a great thing that it deserves its own thread altogether. >Coming to the mosque Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever goes to the mosque in the morning and evening, then Allah will prepare for him a place in Paradise for every morning and evening. (Sahih Bukhari 631) And he reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever purifies himself for ablution in his house and he walks to a house among the houses of Allah in order to fulfill an obligation among the obligations of Allah, then one step of his will expiate his sins and another step will elevate his status. (Sahih Muslim 666) >Charity Giving charity and helping those in need is one of the best acts of worship. Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: None gives charity from what is good, for Allah only accepts what is good, but that the Merciful takes it with His right hand. Even if it is a date, it is nurtured in the hand of the Merciful until it becomes greater than a mountain, just as one of you nurtures his young horse or camel. (Sahih Muslim 1014) >Dhikr & Dua Dhikr (rememberance of Allah) is doubtlessly a great and easy way to attain good deeds. Abdullah ibn Busr reported: A man said, “O Messenger of Allah, the laws of Islam are too many for me, so tell me something I can hold onto.” The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Keep your tongue moist with the remembrance of Allah. (Sunan al-Tirmidhi 3375) Abu Darda reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Shall I not tell you of the best of your deeds, which is the purest to your King, which raises you among your ranks, which is better for you than spending gold and money in charity, and which is better for you than meeting your enemy and striking the necks of each other? They said, “Of course!” The Prophet said: It is the remembrance of Allah Almighty. (Sunan al-Tirmidhi 3377) Words that are light on the tongue and heavy on the scale: Say SubhanAllah wa bihamdih, subhanAllah al Adheem سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وبِحَمْدِهِ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ الْعَظِيمِ Other forms of Dhikr: Tasbeeh ("SubhanAllah" - Glorified is God) Takbeer ("Allahu Akbar" - God is greater) Tamhid ("Alhamdulillah" - Praise be to God) Tahlil ("La ilaha illAllah" - No god except God) Dua (supplication): Al-Nu’man ibn Bashir reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Supplication is worship itself.” Then, the Prophet recited the verse, “Your Lord said: Call upon Me and I will respond to you. Verily, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell in humiliation.” (40:60) (Sunan al-Tirmidhi 3247) >Upholding ties of kinship Respect to parents and family is an obligation for the Muslim. Allah the Almighty says: وَوَصَّيْنَا الْإِنسَانَ بِوَالِدَيْهِ حُسْنًا We have enjoined upon man goodness to his parents. (Surah Al-Ankabut 29:8) Kindness and righteousness to one's parents is the second best deed in Islam after the Salah. (Sahih Bukhari 2630) >Learning Anas ibn Malik reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim. (Sunan Ibn Majah 224) Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever travels a path in search of knowledge, Allah will make easy for him a path to Paradise. People do not gather in the houses of Allah, reciting the book of Allah and studying it together, but that tranquility will descend upon them, mercy will cover them, angels will surround them, and Allah will mention them to those near him. (Sahih Muslim 2699) Mu’awiyah reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: If Allah intends goodness for someone, he gives him understanding of the religion. (Sahih al-Bukhari 71) >Reading Qur'an Abdullah ibn Mas’ud reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah, he will receive one good deed as ten good deeds like it. I do not say that Alif Lam Mim is one letter, but rather Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter, and Mim is a letter.” (Sunan al-Tirmidhi 2910)

Rewards for our good deeds There is a great deal of reward in this world and the next to be attained through our good works, by Allah's grace. Whosoever doeth right, whether male or female, and is a believer, him verily we shall quicken with good life, and We shall pay them a recompense in proportion to the best of what they used to do. It is from the mercy and bounty of Almighty Allah that He multiplies our good deeds. Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Every deed of the son of Adam is multiplied from ten to seven hundred times. Allah the Exalted says: Except for fasting, for it is done for my sake and I will reward it. (Sahih Muslim 1151) A good deed is multiplied by Allah from ten like it up to seven hundred. However, a bad deed remains just one bad deed.
>Voluntary fasting (this hadith was cut off) Abu Umamah reported: I said, “O Messenger of Allah, tell me a deed to do.” The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “You must fast, for there is nothing equal to it.” (Sunan al-Nasā’ī 2223)
Monday the 9th of Dhul Hijjah (July 19th) is the day of Arafah. Don't forget to fast in sha Allah! The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was asked about the observance of Saum (fasting) on the day of 'Arafah. He said, "It is an expiation for the sins of the preceding year and the current year." (Narrated by Muslim)
