Let's have a thread discussing the topic of repentance and forgiveness in Islam. Among the 99 names of Allah are Ar Rahman (The Most Merciful); Ar Raheem (The Most Forgiving); Al Ghaffar (The Pardoner).
Allah the Almighty says:
>But those who committed misdeeds and then repented after them and believed - indeed your Lord, thereafter, is Forgiving and Merciful.
(al-A'raf 153)
Allah the Almighty says:
>As for those who repent, believe, and do good deeds, they are the ones whose evil deeds Allah will change into good deeds. For Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
(al-Furqan 25)
Allah the Almighty says:
>He [Abraham] said: "And who despairs of the mercy of his Lord except for those astray?"
(al-Hijr 56)
Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) having said:
>By Him in Whose Hand is my life, if you were not to commit sin, Allah would sweep you out of existence and He would replace (you by) those people who would commit sin and seek forgiveness from Allah, and He would have pardoned them.
(Sahih Muslim, Kitab at-Tauba 13)
Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying:
>Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, said: My mercy excels My wrath.
(Sahih Muslim, Kitab at-Tauba 18)
