I used to watch eberrything that you mentioned as a kid, although I didn't have Boomerang and watched them on Cartoon Network when I could. I remember really liking Toon Heads after my family got cable TV, but I didn't get to see much of it before it was cancelled. Looking back, I have no nostalgia for any shows Cartoon Network made past the Powerhouse era. I remember thinking Megas XLR was alright, but that might have been the pilot episode and even then it's not something I look back on with fondness. Do you remember stuff like Herculoids and the original Space Ghost cartoon? I recall Cartoon Network showing those really early in the morning on Saturdays as part of some Boomerang programming block or something, and I remember getting up early to watch them before Looney Tunes came on. Boomerang was one of the only channels beyond basic cable that I wanted as a kid.

As much as people like to dump on Hanna-Barbera cartoons, I even like some of the stuff you'd see on some of their shows. Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! comes to mind, and of course Jonny Quest was well above most TV cartoons in terms of animation quality. >Can't say that I do. The thing is that that was the only time I'd get to watch whatever shows they were airing on that programming block. I don't remember any of the shows that well, but showing old cartoons I'd probably never seen before was apparently enough of a reason to get me out of bed at 6:00 in the morning or whenever it was. Nowadays I don't even wake up until after 10:00 if I can help it. >Me either. It felt that channel just became noise, more than anything. Even some of the later cartoon from the Powerhouse period I never got into, like Codename: Kids Next Door or Star Wars: Clone Wars. I think Cartoon Network really jumped the shark when they stopped airing older shows in favor of nothing but original programming. It seems like the early 2000s were the last time when kids were given exposure to older cartoons on such a large scale. Nowadays it seems like people like to pretend older media properties in general don't exist unless they're popular enough that they can be used as fodder for remakes or sequels.

It could be something to do with the art style. It feels unreal yet also highly detailed and creates a weird feeling when combined with the prosaic subject matter. The villages depicted look charming to me while not being at all rooted in reality. I find it hard to me imagine people actually going about their day-to-day lives in them. They remind me of the towns you'd see in early 3D video games, like Quest 64 or something. Even when you can see objects or some kind of activity habbening inside the buildings, it feels like it's only there to build up a sketchy, superficial illusion of reality. And the more I think about it, the more I can recall dreams where I've seen towns like these. Pic berry related. Apologies for the small size. Maybe the way they mostly take place at night contributes to that feeling too. Nighttime seems to be one of the artist's many fixations. There is a dark and threatening aspect to some of his work. Some of his paintings of are of aggressive-looking animals.
