I'm using these right now.
>>4001 Brings back memories of the old cartoons the Boomerang channel used to play when I was a kid.
>>4003 What cartoons were those? The guy who made those is Hiroshi Nagai, by the way. I'm not a visual art enthusiast or anything, but he's my favorite painter.
>>4005 >Hiroshi Nagai Thanks, I'm going to look up more of his art. I found a few already, seems to me vaporwave artists have taken inspiration from his work. >What cartoons were those? Anything produced by Hanna Barbera. Tom and Jerry, Scooby Doo,The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Pink Panther, Yogi Bear, ect. The newer cartoons back in the day didn't interest me as a kid. If I wanted to watch something, these were my go-to shows. Gee, this brought back memories of my childhood I haven't remembered in some time...
>>4006 >Thanks, I'm going to look up more of his art. I found a few already, seems to me vaporwave artists have taken inspiration from his work. I've always thought that if there's a heaven it wood look like one of his paintings. >Anything produced by Hanna Barbera. Tom and Jerry, Scooby Doo,The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Pink Panther, Yogi Bear, ect. Is it the stylization and bold colors? >The newer cartoons back in the day didn't interest me as a kid. If I wanted to watch something, these were my go-to shows. I get what you mean. I watched both old and new cartoons at that time but was generally drawn toward older shows. I used to watch eberrything that you mentioned as a kid, although I didn't have Boomerang and watched them on Cartoon Network when I could. I remember really liking Toon Heads after my family got cable TV, but I didn't get to see much of it before it was cancelled. Looking back, I have no nostalgia for any shows Cartoon Network made past the Powerhouse era. I remember thinking Megas XLR was alright, but that might have been the pilot episode and even then it's not something I look back on with fondness. Do you remember stuff like Herculoids and the original Space Ghost cartoon? I recall Cartoon Network showing those really early in the morning on Saturdays as part of some Boomerang programming block or something, and I remember getting up early to watch them before Looney Tunes came on. Boomerang was one of the only channels beyond basic cable that I wanted as a kid.

>>4008 >I've always thought that if there's a heaven it wood look like one of his paintings. When I look at his art now, I can't help but think of them in this context. >Is it the stylization and bold colors? Bingo. They look like a setting or wallpaper some of those cartoons could be in. >Do you remember stuff like Herculoids and the original Space Ghost cartoon? Can't say that I do. I've seen stuff about Space Ghost floating around YouTube, but I've never heard of Herculoids. Although, after searching for images for it, I can't help but feel that some buried vault deep in my memories has been opened. I know I've never seen it before, but somehow it looks so familiar. Strange how that works... >and I remember getting up early to watch them before Looney Tunes came on. Ah, the good ol days when your schedule revolved around the time your favorite shows were on... >Looking back, I have no nostalgia for any shows Cartoon Network made past the Powerhouse era. Me either. It felt that channel just became noise, more than anything.
>>4018 >Bingo. They look like a setting or wallpaper some of those cartoons could be in. One of my favorite aspects of old animation is the backgrounds. As much as people like to dump on Hanna-Barbera cartoons, I even like some of the stuff you'd see on some of their shows. Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! comes to mind, and of course Jonny Quest was well above most TV cartoons in terms of animation quality. I get what you mean. I wonder what causes that false deja vu feeling. >Ah, the good ol days when your schedule revolved around the time your favorite shows were on... The thing is that that was the only time I'd get to watch whatever shows they were airing on that programming block. I don't remember any of the shows that well, but showing old cartoons I'd probably never seen before was apparently enough of a reason to get me out of bed at 6:00 in the morning or whenever it was. Nowadays I don't even wake up until after 10:00 if I can help it. >Me either. It felt that channel just became noise, more than anything. Even some of the later cartoon from the Powerhouse period I never got into, like Codename: Kids Next Door or Star Wars: Clone Wars. I think Cartoon Network really jumped the shark when they stopped airing older shows in favor of nothing but original programming. It seems like the early 2000s were the last time when kids were given exposure to older cartoons on such a large scale. Nowadays it seems like people like to pretend older media properties in general don't exist unless they're popular enough that they can be used as fodder for remakes or sequels.
>>4006 Reminds me the cover art of the For You album from Tatsuro Yamacacaa by Eizin Suzuki. After a quick search, Nagai illustrated some pop rock albums in the 80's (2nd pic).
>>4006 Where does the vaporwave/retrowave sun come from? What is its origin point? I've always wanted to know. A full brekdown like those "origin of spurdo/gondola" or "origin of bury pink" wood be especially nice.
Here's some actual wallpapers.

>>4103 >>4092 It reminds me of this ancient wallpaper.
>>4108 It makes me think of these kinds of images.
>>4110 I really should post some of them in /retro/.
>>4116 Yah, I think they'd enjoy them too.
>>4090 I don't think it's the origin, but there was a software company that used that exact style of sun as its logo. Unfortunately, I can't recall the name of it, but I'm bretty sure they date back to the 70s or 80s.

These are in kind of weird resolutions, but hopefully they're of use to someone.
>>4329 Apologies, but we can only delete all of them, or none of them. But the beauty of the photo more than makes up for the blemish IMO. Also, anyone can crop it out if they really don't care for it. Thanks for the nice wallpapers Anon. Brings back memories tbh. :^)
>>4751 Interesting. That duststorm one is bretty dramatic looking tbh.
>>4752 It's fine as long as other people like it. It's just not something I like with the watermark there. >>4753 They really capture the feeling of the mysterious and wondrous lying just below the surface of the mundane. The artist's name is Leonard Koscianski, by the way. I like the peaceful, dreamlike feeling of his work.
>>4754 Yeah those are quite remarkable. Thanks Anon for sharing these ITT! :)
>>4751 >>4754 These nice paintings have an eerie and dreamy feel. I don't know if it was the artist's will but I find them all a bit disturbing. Is it the perspective ? The predominance of blue tones ? The fact that eberryone is running ? I like them, thanks for sharing.
>>4755 Yup. >>4756 >I don't know if it was the artist's will but I find them all a bit disturbing. Is it the perspective ? The predominance of blue tones ? The fact that eberryone is running ? It could be something to do with the art style. It feels unreal yet also highly detailed and creates a weird feeling when combined with the prosaic subject matter. The villages depicted look charming to me while not being at all rooted in reality. I find it hard to me imagine people actually going about their day-to-day lives in them. They remind me of the towns you'd see in early 3D video games, like Quest 64 or something. Even when you can see objects or some kind of activity habbening inside the buildings, it feels like it's only there to build up a sketchy, superficial illusion of reality. And the more I think about it, the more I can recall dreams where I've seen towns like these. Pic berry related. Apologies for the small size. Maybe the way they mostly take place at night contributes to that feeling too. Nighttime seems to be one of the artist's many fixations. There is a dark and threatening aspect to some of his work. Some of his paintings of are of aggressive-looking animals.

This has been mine for a while, I rarely ever change it. It pairs nicely with the WinXP Noir theme.
