>>4001 Brings back memories of the old cartoons the Boomerang channel used to play when I was a kid.
>>4003 What cartoons were those? The guy who made those is Hiroshi Nagai, by the way. I'm not a visual art enthusiast or anything, but he's my favorite painter.
>>4005 >Hiroshi Nagai Thanks, I'm going to look up more of his art. I found a few already, seems to me vaporwave artists have taken inspiration from his work. >What cartoons were those? Anything produced by Hanna Barbera. Tom and Jerry, Scooby Doo,The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Pink Panther, Yogi Bear, ect. The newer cartoons back in the day didn't interest me as a kid. If I wanted to watch something, these were my go-to shows. Gee, this brought back memories of my childhood I haven't remembered in some time...
>>4006 >Thanks, I'm going to look up more of his art. I found a few already, seems to me vaporwave artists have taken inspiration from his work. I've always thought that if there's a heaven it wood look like one of his paintings. >Anything produced by Hanna Barbera. Tom and Jerry, Scooby Doo,The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Pink Panther, Yogi Bear, ect. Is it the stylization and bold colors? >The newer cartoons back in the day didn't interest me as a kid. If I wanted to watch something, these were my go-to shows. I get what you mean. I watched both old and new cartoons at that time but was generally drawn toward older shows. I used to watch eberrything that you mentioned as a kid, although I didn't have Boomerang and watched them on Cartoon Network when I could. I remember really liking Toon Heads after my family got cable TV, but I didn't get to see much of it before it was cancelled. Looking back, I have no nostalgia for any shows Cartoon Network made past the Powerhouse era. I remember thinking Megas XLR was alright, but that might have been the pilot episode and even then it's not something I look back on with fondness. Do you remember stuff like Herculoids and the original Space Ghost cartoon? I recall Cartoon Network showing those really early in the morning on Saturdays as part of some Boomerang programming block or something, and I remember getting up early to watch them before Looney Tunes came on. Boomerang was one of the only channels beyond basic cable that I wanted as a kid.

>>4008 >I've always thought that if there's a heaven it wood look like one of his paintings. When I look at his art now, I can't help but think of them in this context. >Is it the stylization and bold colors? Bingo. They look like a setting or wallpaper some of those cartoons could be in. >Do you remember stuff like Herculoids and the original Space Ghost cartoon? Can't say that I do. I've seen stuff about Space Ghost floating around YouTube, but I've never heard of Herculoids. Although, after searching for images for it, I can't help but feel that some buried vault deep in my memories has been opened. I know I've never seen it before, but somehow it looks so familiar. Strange how that works... >and I remember getting up early to watch them before Looney Tunes came on. Ah, the good ol days when your schedule revolved around the time your favorite shows were on... >Looking back, I have no nostalgia for any shows Cartoon Network made past the Powerhouse era. Me either. It felt that channel just became noise, more than anything.
>>4018 >Bingo. They look like a setting or wallpaper some of those cartoons could be in. One of my favorite aspects of old animation is the backgrounds. As much as people like to dump on Hanna-Barbera cartoons, I even like some of the stuff you'd see on some of their shows. Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! comes to mind, and of course Jonny Quest was well above most TV cartoons in terms of animation quality. I get what you mean. I wonder what causes that false deja vu feeling. >Ah, the good ol days when your schedule revolved around the time your favorite shows were on... The thing is that that was the only time I'd get to watch whatever shows they were airing on that programming block. I don't remember any of the shows that well, but showing old cartoons I'd probably never seen before was apparently enough of a reason to get me out of bed at 6:00 in the morning or whenever it was. Nowadays I don't even wake up until after 10:00 if I can help it. >Me either. It felt that channel just became noise, more than anything. Even some of the later cartoon from the Powerhouse period I never got into, like Codename: Kids Next Door or Star Wars: Clone Wars. I think Cartoon Network really jumped the shark when they stopped airing older shows in favor of nothing but original programming. It seems like the early 2000s were the last time when kids were given exposure to older cartoons on such a large scale. Nowadays it seems like people like to pretend older media properties in general don't exist unless they're popular enough that they can be used as fodder for remakes or sequels.
>>4006 Reminds me the cover art of the For You album from Tatsuro Yamacacaa by Eizin Suzuki. After a quick search, Nagai illustrated some pop rock albums in the 80's (2nd pic).
>>4006 Where does the vaporwave/retrowave sun come from? What is its origin point? I've always wanted to know. A full brekdown like those "origin of spurdo/gondola" or "origin of bury pink" wood be especially nice.
Here's some actual wallpapers.

>>4108 It makes me think of these kinds of images.
>>4110 I really should post some of them in /retro/.
>>4116 Yah, I think they'd enjoy them too.
>>4090 I don't think it's the origin, but there was a software company that used that exact style of sun as its logo. Unfortunately, I can't recall the name of it, but I'm bretty sure they date back to the 70s or 80s.
