Doing comfy things is nice, but how about doing FUN and EXCITING things? ITT please talk about what you like to do for fun. Maybe we can even do some fun stuff together. Me, I like boats. I like swimming too. It's fun to be in the water in general, plus it's good exercise. I plan to get a boating license some time, although it's an expensive hobby.
>>563 I've never been behind the wheel of a big boat, I don't really think it'd be my kind of thing anyway. But one of the best experiences of my life is spending a full week canoeing around some wetlands next to lake Superior. I like canoeing. It's very nice. I wish I could just take a canoe and some light survival gear and jump in a river and see where it takes me. I don't think humans take kindly to that, though.
>>563 >>639 You too remind me what a comfy fun ride a glass bottom boat is. I really need to do that again sometime. I also want to go on a train ride for a vacation stop. One of of those multiple day rides that has dining and cabins.
I hitchhicked twice in my life and in the first time I ended up walking 50 kilometres for 8 hours in the middle of darkness, does that count?
>>643 >does that count? That depends, was it fun?
>>1658 It was thrilling, to say the least

Post snug pictures. They don't have to be rainy or cold-looking, even though it helps.

/imbibe/ General - What are you drinking? Anonymous 11/11/2019 (Mon) 10:39:12 No.685 [Reply] [Last]
I want to shitpost about alcohol. What are you drinking, Anon? Tell us about it! This /cafe/ is licensed, right?

I've been on a cocktail kick lately. I decided to have an apéritif tonight, so I made this gin martini with Beefeater London dry gin, Carpano dry vermouth, and a dash of Angosutra bitters. I considered a lemon twist but ended up garnishing with an olive because I wanted that slightly briny flavour. It's certainly stimulated my appetite, but I think maybe the dry gin might be a little harsh so it might have benefited more from the lemon oil from the twist to perfume it, give it a little less of the one note. I thought that the herbs from the vermouth came through beautifully bitter. Still prefer a Negroni as an apéritif, though.

Comfy films thread Anon 06/03/2020 (Wed) 11:57:21 No.1304 [Reply] [Last]
What are some comfy classic films you like? No hollywood ship please. For me it's Werner Herzog's films, he's a fantastic director.

>>1585 You're right, they did. I shouldn't have said mean things about them, I'm sorry.
>>1586 No need to apologize. They are a far cry from what they used to be, after all.
>>1585 Good movies were made in spite of Hollywood, not because of them.
>>1590 I'd say it's a mix of both. Hollywood has had a way of compromising filmmakers' visions (for good or for bad), but they also provided the resources (financial, personnel, etc.) and an environment in which they can work.
>>1616 >but they also provided the resources (financial, personnel, etc.) and an environment in which they can work. Pretty much. Producers in many art industries fail to trust the vision of those they hire. They used to force laugh tracks into shows too (Peanuts show almost had to have one). You just need to find out to get the resources without the restrictions... From the page of Don Hertzfeldt's Rejected (creator of It's Such a Beautiful Day, neither is comfy but the second earned a well-deserved 100% on Rotten Tomatos): >A projector was purchased in an attempt to be able to view and edit the film in-house, but the idea crashed and burned quite literally in impressive plumes of white smoke - the projector was broken on deliberry. With no way to view any of the finished footage, the entire movie was instead spliced together blind, with proper editing sessions later taking place in the dead of night on the Warner Bros lot when nobody was looking.

What's your favorite album or song to chill out and listen to in its entirety?

>>1085 Just from that opening sound I would guess it's from something Doopees or Yann Tomita related. Just a guess however, I can't remember what album.
>>1110 I don't think it's Doopees, that has a deeper voice
>>1110 Thanks for the tip, I found it: https://youtu.be/nQg8ZRxzO5E
This record has really been growing on me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UeTbf1eefc4&list=PLWPzamD2fpykHKEpJIDZVeDD3UO0gAOC4 I only heard it a few years ago, but it makes me feel kind of nostalgic for the early 2000s. It almost reminds me of music you'd hear on a car commercial back then or something. It might lack the emotional complexity and organic sounds of Boards of Canada (who eberry downtempo musician seems to get compared to), but on the flip side there's a peacefulness to it that most of their stuff doesn't have.
